When you’re a sex toy tester, one of the ways you feel you’ve ‘made it’ is when you’re finally contacted by a high-end sex toy company and asked to test one of their toys. Maybe that’s just me! One of the happiest emails I ever received was from Lelo, asking if I would be willing to test one of their items and review it. Of course, I said yes! I’ve always wanted to own one of their toys, but haven’t been able to justify purchasing one myself due to budget constraints. Sometimes it sucks being a responsible adult!

I chose the Tiani 3, Lelo’s couples vibrator. My husband and I are always on the look out for toys we can use together. Don’t get me wrong, we both love our solo playtime, but having multi-use toys is never a bad thing. And don’t worry, the Tiani 3 can be used alone, no penis necessary.

What is the Tiani 3?

Billed as a couple’s vibrator, the Tiani 3 is a U shaped vibrating toy, designed to be used during intercourse, but it works just fine on its own. It is primarily a clitoral vibrator, with two distinct ends. The smaller end is inserted into the vagina and does not independently vibrate. Don’t worry, the vibrations from the other end definitely travel through. As this device is designed for use during intercourse, this is the end that will stimulate both partners.

Speaking of the other end, it goes over the labia and clitoris, to provide waves of pleasure by way of an intense vibrating action. And that’s not just lip service (pun intended), this tiny toy packs a big punch. And, it’s completely waterproof.

How Does it Work?

Since the toy is inside of you while in use, it may seem like you’re stuck with whatever setting you chose upon insertion. However, Lelo kindly provides you with a wireless remote (that resembles a small hockey puck) you can use to control your toy. There are three different modes of vibration available, and they’re pretty amazing.

Two of the modes are powered by Lelo’s SenseMotion technology (if you have an iPhone, you’ve encountered this tech before, it’s what runs the gyroscope used to register your steps), with the third option being a more traditional style of control.

SenseMotion Mode 1 makes the remote, as well as the massager, vibrate. You control the intensity of the vibrations by tilting the remote in either direction. The closer you move toward a 90 degree angle, the more intense the vibrations become.

SenseMotion Mode 2 also features the remote and massager vibrating, the difference being, the faster the remote is moved, the stronger the vibrations. The more excited you get with your movements, the more pleasure you’ll get!

The final mode is similar to how a remote typically functions. You can choose the intensity of the vibration by using the plus and minus buttons. The remote does not vibrate in this mode, and how you tilt or move the remote has zero bearing on the intensity or function.

I wasn’t sure why the remote vibrated in the two SenseMotion modes, but the more I thought about it, the more sense it made. If two females played with this toy, one could enjoy the Tiani 3 itself, while the other controlled the vibrations (and place the remote on their own body to feel what’s going on). It also gives sensory feedback to whomever is controlling the remote, allowing them to feel how hard the Tiani 3 is moving inside their partner’s body, giving you more control over the sensations.

My Personal Experience

Lelo prides itself on being a luxury sex toy retailer, with a fairly high price point. But are their toys really worth it? Do they really know how to provide pleasure to their customers?

That’s a resounding, yes.

Using the Tiani 3 is a learning experience. Using it for the first time, I had to bend and move it a few times before finding the right fit. What I like the most is the ability to do so, as other toys I’ve owned don’t always accommodate for different body types. Once I was able to bend and shape the device to my body, it stayed in place pretty well. There are positions it’s not a fan of. Gravity is a thing, and doggy style isn’t a recommended position for a reason.

We found that missionary or cowgirl work the best. The vibrations are consistent, starting out at what I would consider middle of the road and increasing to high. If you have a very sensitive clitoris, this toy may be too intense for you, as the contact is direct.

SenseMotion Mode 1 provides infinite combinations of pleasure and is a lot of fun to experience. I’ve had my husband, Damian, tilt the device in every conceivable direction (while I watch his movements) and enjoy the waves of pleasure that ensue.

SenseMotion Mode 2 is the easiest to use, in my opinion. Damian holds the remote in his hand, while doing what he normally does when we have intercourse. His movements change, depending on how he’s thrusting or moving, and so does the level of vibration.

Manual mode, for us, isn’t used often. I’ve read other reviews that say couples tend to use this more often when having penetrative sex, but I found it distracting to feel for the plus and minus buttons when I wanted to change the vibration (and Damian did as well), so we stick with the other two modes more often than not.

This is a couple’s vibrator, so if you’re looking for something with more intense vibration for yourself, this isn’t the toy for you. Although at the highest setting, it definitely delivers a punch, if you’re more about a direct feel on your clitoris, this may not do what you need. What I love is the fact that Damian feels the vibrations with me, which definitely makes this toy the perfect item for a male/female couple.

Where Can I Get the Tiani 3?

Lelo has the best price available online and keep this item in stock, so you don’t have to worry about availability. Now, until the end of June, you can use my code, DELUNE to receive 10 percent off any item on Lelo’s site (not valid on already discounted items).

The Bottom Line

While this toy is marketed as a couple’s vibrator, I love that you can still use it alone if you choose. With that said, having a couple’s specific toy to add to our toy box is something we’ve wanted to do for some time, and the Tiani 3 is the perfect addition. This is our first high quality toy to use together, and we couldn’t be happier. Lelo stands behind their products, provides quality customer service, and is a leader in the sex toy industry for a reason.

There’s a new class of tech-savvy sex toys that are unlike anything else your orgasm has ever seen. Unlike traditional vibes which use…well, vibration, a new batch of sonic vibrators creates airwaves around your clitoris to suck it upward, stimulating more of your clit than you probably thought possible. I’d tried vibrators like this before and let me tell you, damn. But the sonic vibrator from Lelo, the company responsible for some of the most high-end sex toys on the market, has totally revolutionized the orgasm.

The Lelo Sona, a sleek “sonic massager ” with different vibration modes and intensity settings, and a head that looks like a little mouth, is a true game-changer. Unlike other vibes, you don’t need to move the Sona at all—place the mouth over your clitoris and it does all the work for you. The result? A deliciously good orgasm without having to lift a finger. If more pressure is your thing, Lelo also makes the Sona Cruise. What’s the difference? When you press against the Cruise, it intuits you need more power and ups the game even further.

What’s The Lelo Sona Like?

Other sonic sex toys I’ve tried before vibrate very softly because their main function is suction—it feels like they’re reaching deep within your core, pulling an orgasm out of you. The Lelo Sona feels more like a vibrator, with extremely powerful vibrations on the surface of the clitoris. It’s remniscent of standing in front of large speakers and feeling the vibrations throughout your body.

Still, the sonic vibration action was good. It created a prolonged climax after a sensual buildup, the kind of luxuriously drawn-out orgasm that still has you feeling tingly minutes later. While its competitors aim to get women off quickly—and do a damn good job at it—the Lelo Sona aims for more sustained pleasure. And it succeeds too: My orgasms from this one take more like four or five minutes, rather than two or three, but they follow a very distinctive arc. Around a minute or two before climax, my vagina starts having singular contractions spaced a few seconds apart, each of which feels like its own mini orgasm. I’d describe the process as more of a hill than a mountain with a sharp peak.

Unlike the Womanizer and Satisfyer, this one isn’t great for attempting multiple orgasms. The vibrations are so powerful it would probably leave your clit in a coma. If you’re like me, and typically prefer your vibrator at it’s highest setting, you may find you’re not okay with that with this toy.

The second generation of these toys are a lot softer than their original counterparts. The mouth was re-shaped for comfort as well, so bonus for sure.

I wouldn’t be surprised if even more toys following this suction model come out over the next few years. So far, although they have the same basic premise, none of the different models I’ve tried has felt too similar. The Satisfyer and Womanizer are pretty alike, but the Lelo Sona and the Cruise provide a different kind of pleasure that’s not really better or worse, merely suited to different needs.

What’s the Big Difference Between the Two?

Price plays a factor, as the Cruise is around $30 USD more than the Sona. What do you get for the difference in price? Power. The Cruise doesn’t ramp down the motor when you press against your body, so if this is something you’re prone to doing, the Cruise will be the better option. If not, then the Sona is just fine.

The Sona Cruise is also a lot louder than the Sona. There’s no hiding what you’re doing when playing with either toy, as neither of them are remotely quiet, but the Cruise is exceptionally loud.

The Bottom Line

Whether you choose the Sona or the Sona Cruise, you’re getting an awesome sonic vibrator to add to your collection. The feeling is much different than traditional suction based clitoral stimulators, so it’s worth the investment.
